The word Ocozocoautla it's from an oringin nahoa and it comes from the vocabulary okoshotl, ocozote (some textile plant) y kuautla, forest, that is to say “Bosque de los ocozotes”.  Well-knowing as "Coita".

The municipality of Ocozocoautla de Espinosa it's ubicated into occidental's part of the state, covering a part of the depression station and the North Mountains.

The prehispanic population it was conformated by two Zoque's tribe that was established into the actual regions Oocozocoautla. The firsth group was established on the big valleys of the North actual well-knowing as Piedra Parada, situaded into the blue's skirt of the hill "La Colmena", where the plains initiate properly.

It was an small disperse group who were ran away of frequently attacks on the capital of Zoque's impery, situated on(Actuallyis underneath waters of  Nezahualcoyotl's prey, well-knowed as Malpaso), due to who emigrated to the South were found an exuberant of vegetation, it's like that these migratory's group were estableced on Nourth's Regon, actualy municipy of Ocozocoautla, starting process of this region in that moment well-knowed as pajev-uay.

Less time after make an apparition another group who to see the North part was ocupated, were in nesecity of throughing and situaded on the South region well-knowed as jave. These two groups got into  rivality because of terretory, and when they has contact, they'll know their belief and habits was the same, due to they'll got united, originning the village jave-pacuay thus, that means in Zoque "people who fight with flints". Posteriorly, this village will got named Ocozocoautla well-knowed as Coita (Noriega,2010).
